Group Classes for Physiotherapists: One Hour, Many Patients

One-to-one treatment is the heart of physiotherapy. But it is not the only way to help people. A well-run group class lets you guide six or eight patients in the same hour. Patients get more supervised exercise at a lower fee, and the clinic earns more from the same room and time.

Part of How Physiotherapists in India Can Earn More Without Working Longer Hours, in Earning more.

Which groups work well

  • Back care and core strength.
  • Knee pain and osteoarthritis for middle-aged and older patients.
  • Balance and fall prevention for senior citizens.
  • Post-natal recovery for new mothers.
  • Posture and neck care for IT and office workers.

The best groups come from patients you already see. If you treat many knee patients, a knee group is a natural next step.

Keep it clinical

A group class is still physiotherapy. Assess each patient one-to-one before they join, keep the group small enough to watch everyone, and keep a short record for each person. This is what makes it worth more than a gym class. See treatment notes.

Fill the class

  • Suggest the class to patients when their one-to-one treatment finishes.
  • Offer monthly batches or session packages. See treatment packages.
  • Let people book a seat online, with a fixed limit so the class never overfills.

Make the admin easy

Classes bring admin: who is coming, who paid, who is waiting. In Clinidiary each class has a size limit, a list of who has booked, attendance in one tap and a waitlist when full. See group classes.

Set a fee that works

The class fee is less than a one-to-one session, but six people together earn more for the hour. Price it so the class pays for itself even when one or two seats are empty.
